Watch cougars and spoiled brats for free on the PlayStation Store

For a limited time, you'll be able to download free episodes of two Bravo reality shows from the PlayStation Store. The first episodes of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and NYC Prep are available to download for free. These reality shows will lift your spirits, making you thankful for not being these people. Watch comedy ensue as cameras follow a series of desperate New Jersey housewives banter about their hair, and a group of spoiled rich kids complain about how rich they are.

Ain't television grand?

Free Druid costume coming to LittleBigPlanet

If you're like us, you like free costumes in LittleBigPlanet -- primarily because it's hard to resist free stuff. Media Molecule's next gratis offering is this "Druid" costume, created to celebrate the summer solstice. As with many of the game's free costumes, this costume will only be available for a week. Europeans will want to hit the PlayStation Store tomorrow (June 18th), while North American PS3 owners will have to wait until next week, June 25th.

The long white robe should help -- as noted by Takorii -- create some excellent Assassin's Creed costumes. We'll certainly be using the beard whenever we cross a bridge in the game, screaming "You shall not pass!"

Get the Chamber Apartment in Home for free next week

Tired of your apartment in Home? Well, you can get a brand new living space for free next week on PlayStation Home. Make sure you don't wait too long to snag the virtual space, as it will only be free from May 14th to May 21st. The new environment features a giant living tree in the middle, and adds a nice fantasy-inspired touch to the PSN world.

European Xbox owners get free Live Gold this weekend

It's an Xbox Xtival! (Don't try to pronounce it -- you may summon Cthulu.) European Xbox 360 owners will be treated to a weekend of free Xbox Live Gold access in this virtual "party" featuring Halo 3, Lips, Guitar Hero and more. The free Gold experience should activate automatically, allowing even lowly non-paying customers to jump online in their favorite favourite games.

Play Left 4 Dead 4 free this 'Freaky Free Friday' on Steam

Have you been abstaining from zombie slaying until the cost of entry dropped to the low-low price of free? If so, you're in luck. Valve is making Left 4 Dead available to all Steam users for free this "Freaky Free Friday" with a 24-hour trial version available at 12:01AM GMT. However, you can download and preload the game and the free Survival Pack DLC right now to get ready for a day with the undead.

We suggest calling in sick to work, ditching school and skipping Aunt Mabel's funeral (she might be a zombie herself, after all) if you haven't been a part of this game yet. Just don't blame us when you yearn for more undead cleansing the next day and end up (*gulp*) spending money!

1 vs. 100 will be free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers

Are you disappointed by the lack of perks associated with Xbox Live's "Gold member" status? We expect most membership tiers named after Au-some precious metals to include special jackets, or possibly unrestricted access to some sort of highly exclusive drinking establishment where people much cooler than us hang out. Instead, we get unrestricted access to bold new pejorative descriptors for a number of Earth's demographics.

However, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be getting more bonuses than just hate speech when the service's first Primetime title launches this spring. Yes, according to the game's official page on Xbox.com, 1 vs. 100 is going to be free for all Gold members. This is great news, as we probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise. No Saget, no sale.

Steam announces Plants vs. Zombies pre-order bonus, trailer tune available

Valve has announced Steam users who pre-order Plants vs. Zombies before its May 5 release will receive a free copy of Heavy Weapon Deluxe right away. While both titles are from PopCap's library, they couldn't be more from one another. Plants vs. Zombies is the latest in a never-ending stream of tower defense style games while Heavy Weapon Deluxe puts is an action title putting players in control of an atomic tank.

If one free thing isn't good enough, you can also rock out to the Plants vs. Zombies trailer theme song, "Zombies on Your Lawn" by downloading the tune today. Performed by Laura Shigihara, the song -- which will no doubt be stuck in your brain forever -- is available for download at our sister site BigDownload in both English and Japanese flavors. We dare you to try and hate it.

Free EndWar DLC keeps war from ending

"Pay for DLC? What kind of nonsense is that?" Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's EndWar producers likely had that thought running through their heads when they decided to release two new maps for the grand total of nothing. That is correct: the "Veteran Map Pack" is now available as a free download from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace.

Russia's Cosmodrome and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Richton, Miss. are the pair of new battlegrounds in question, letting players visit the former Soviet Union's equivalent of Cape Canaveral and the place where they make Vaseline. What? Oh, it's not that kind of petroleum? Sadly, player-requested voice commands such as "Make me a sammich!" and "Get bent!" have not been included along with the maps. Those we'd pay for.

PopCap offering free game for St. Patrick's Day

If you're looking for something to do this St. Patrick's Day (other than the usual projectile vomiting of chartreuse-hued beverages), PopCap has a frugal suggestion -- starting today and running until March 24, the casual gaming juggernaut is offering Big Money, a title which usually retails for £14.95, for, well, no money. If clearing boards of similarly-colored clusters of coins sounds up your alley, you can now download the full title for free. If not, why not be a dear and pass this story along to your Bejeweled-obsessed grandmother? She'd probably love to hear from you.

Get the World of Goo soundtrack for free

Fans of great games and game music have a fan in 2D Boy, which happens to have made a great game with great music: World of Goo. The developer is such a fan of its fans that it has made the game's soundtrack available for free via its website.

Not only that -- one-half of the two-man dev team, Kyle Gabler, has taken the time to remaster the tracks, "like they do to Snow White DVDs." 2D Boy's site has links to download mirrors of the 49-minute score; there's even a set of fan-created sheet music, in case you like to play great music as well as great games.

Tune Raider: 'Underworld' soundtrack available for free download

Nothing says "yuletide cheer" like a bombastic action score, such as the one written by Colin O'Malley for Tomb Raider: Underworld. Good news: said soundtrack is being offered as a free download from the website Tomb Raider Chronicles (and actually has been for a while, but "better late than never"). There are actually several downloads to choose from: bundles of tracks associated with each of the game's locales, or one big "deluxe edition" (198MB) containing all 71 tracks in 320kbps MP3 format. (Lady Croft demands nothing but the highest bitrates.)

Upgrade to Live gold, get free XBLA game or DLC

'Tis the season for giving and Microsoft refuses to be labeled as a "scrooge" this holiday, so they're giving away free downloadable goodies. That is, if you're currently an Xbox Live silver member who is willing to pay to upgrade to gold.

Both U.S. and some European countries can score either a free Xbox Live Arcade game or downloadable content for upgrading to gold Live. Each offer requires silver Live members to upgrade to a gold 12 month subscription prior to January 5th and the account upgrade must be done online. Then, once the subscription is paid in full, you'll get to select from a variety of free XBLA games and DLC that's specific to each offer. Free goodies including N+, Zuma, Marble Blast, H3 Legendary Map Pack and more. Click the offers below to get all the details and get learned about the specifics.

Sony to deploy free, multi-stage Santa SackBoy costume

In addition to tomorrow's for-pay Street Fighter outfits, Sony will be gifting LittleBigPlanet fans with the first part of a free, two-piece SackSanta costume for your SackBoys (or SackGirls). Stage one is the Santa suit; the hat and beard will be available on the PlayStation Store (again, for free) the following Thursday, December 18.

Like the milk & cookies you leave out for the real Santa, this costume will magically disappear from the PS Store come January 8. We're assuming it won't be replaced with a coal costume.

Petroglyph reveals 'online microtransaction game' Mytheon

Petroglyph, the warmongers behind both Star Wars: Empire at War and Universe at War, this morning revealed details behind the studio's next project, Mytheon, which publisher True Games Interactive describes as a "micro transaction game that...." Hey, where are you going?

Using the myths of Ancient Greece as a foundation, the free-to-play game promises to blend the "best" elements of action, role-playing and strategy with a "heavy emphasis" on combat and collecting. Additionally, Peter Cesario, the director of product development at True Games, tells Big Download that future expansions will "eventually branch out to several unique and interesting mythologies from around the world." Until then, players can look forward to grinding towards the Golden Fleece in Fall 2009.

Download fresh and free Marketplace content

Available for download off the U.S. Xbox Live Marketplace is quite the mix of free themes and gamer pictures. All, like we said, FREE! You can download and choose between Children's Miracle Network content, Rock the Vote content, Stride, Saw V, Star Ocean 4, etc. Also, don't forget to grab your free Dead Space Elite Suit as soon as possible, because it's only available for a limited time. List of fresh and free XBLM content after the break.
